Our History
We were founded in 2003 by Robert Postlethwaite, who, inspired by Jonathon Porritt’s book Seeing Green believed there must be a better way to do business: giving employees a genuine stake in their company’s success and engaging them in how it performs and its wider role in the world.
Robert left his role as partner in an international corporate law firm to pursue that vision – starting the firm from his spare room. A year later, the firm moved to Covent Garden, beginning a steady period of growth.
We have built up a team of experienced and brilliant people, all of whom are highly valuable to us and who work collaboratively to ensure the highest quality service
Employee ownership has been possible in the UK since the mid 20th century but 2014 saw a huge boost when the coalition government’s introduced the Employee Ownership Trust. That same year saw our first entry and subsequent recognition in the Law Firm Guide Chambers & Partners and an office move to our current home, Staple Inn Buildings. Since then came various milestones such as the publication of The Employee Ownership Manual in 2019, our 50th EOT in 2020, and our 100th in 2022.
The past few years have been especially significant: celebrating our 20th anniversary and becoming 100% employee-owned in 2023; in 2025, we hosted the Employee Owned Law Firm Conference, released the second edition of The Employee Ownership Manual, achieved B Corp certification and reached our 200th EOT client.
With employee ownership continuing to grow in the UK and internationally, we are energised by the opportunity to pursue our mission: guiding more companies to successful employee ownership and driving the growth of this vital business model.
